Tutti-Fruitti draws from the opulent woodcarving traditions of the 16th-century English Renaissance, reimagining the decorative “Renaissance Drop” through sensuality, humour, and excess.

Influenced by the Huguenot makers who brought Dutch still-life ornamentation to England, these cascading garlands of carved flora and fauna became symbols of wealth, appetite, and desire, framing mirrors, altars, and grand domestic interiors.

Working alongside two master woodcarvers, I created a 120cm sculptural drop responding to the theme of forest emergence. My section explored the erotic language of fruit across both historical and contemporary culture: aphrodisiac plants, swollen forms, suggestive abundance, and insects placed provocatively within the composition.

Balancing craftsmanship with playful subversion, the work invites viewers to look closer, where ornament becomes innuendo, and beauty reveals something more mischievous beneath.

Feast your eyes.
