About Alec Stevens
Alec Stevens' sculptures and installations reveal a playful quality in the daily world around us. He fuses craft practice (in particular, fine wood carving) and critical thinking to create works which are humorous, revealing and thought-provoking. While exploring ideas, whether linked to a specific historic location or to the urban setting, he uses wood to create dramatic experiences that unlock hidden or overlooked narratives.
Trusted by museums, archives and the National Trust for over a decade, Stevens' practice is finely tuned to enrich and enhance any public facing organisation steeped in stories, intrigue and tradition.
He is a long term Resident Artist within the Pervasive Media Studio in Bristol, recent Artist in Residence within both West Dean College in East Sussex and the C.V.P. Residency in Paris.
Stevens is currently being supported by a grant from 'a space' Arts in Southampton to develop 'Queer Bar Light Room'. He is also currently being supported by Arts Council England via a DYCP Grant to elevate his practice and reach new audiences.
He was also awarded the Covid-19 Emergency Support Grant from Arts Council England in 2020.
